On Friday, April 17th, our Client Care Coordinator Sarah and RN Supervisor Sharon attended the Brain Health Summit in Cary and came back inspired, energized, and even more committed to supporting families across the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Clayton areas with compassionate, solutions-oriented Senior Care Services.
This year’s theme, “Mapping the Journey After a Dementia Diagnosis,” really resonated. For many families in Raleigh, Cary, and surrounding communities, that moment can feel overwhelming. There are questions, uncertainties, and a lot of emotions all at once. What stood out at the summit was the focus on turning that uncertainty into a clear, supported path forward; something we strive to provide every day through our in-home care for seniors, dementia care, and personalized home care assistance.
One of the biggest highlights for Sarah was hearing Dr. Karen D. Sullivan speak about “Community as Medicine in Brain Change.” Through her work with Pinehurst Neuropsychology, she shared how powerful community, connection, and even music can be for individuals living with dementia. It wasn’t just clinical, it was deeply human. Her research shows that meaningful engagement, familiar routines, and shared experiences can have a real impact on quality of life.
That message aligns closely with what we see every day providing companion care and in home senior care throughout Raleigh and Cary. Sometimes it’s not the big things that matter most, it’s sitting together listening to a favorite song, sharing a conversation, or simply being present. Those moments of connection are at the heart of truly compassionate home care services.
The summit also brought together a wide range of experts, each offering a different lens on what happens after a dementia diagnosis. From functional neurology to medication management and caregiver education, the conversations all pointed to one important idea: there is no one-size-fits-all approach to elderly care.
Speakers like Dr. Benjamin Glickman explored how better understanding the nervous system can help support brain function, while Dr. DeLon Canterbury emphasized how reducing unnecessary medications can actually help protect cognitive health. Professionals like Melanie Bunn focused on equipping caregivers with practical tools, and insights from Dr. Todd Cohen and Dan Bulgarelli reinforced the importance of both medical expertise and a positive, person-centered approach.
What tied everything together was the emphasis on having a roadmap. Not just information, but guidance families can actually use. Whether it’s understanding what to expect after a diagnosis, making medical or legal decisions, or simply figuring out the next step, that sense of direction is incredibly valuable, especially for families navigating in home elderly care in Raleigh or Cary.
That’s exactly where respite care, ongoing senior home care, and trusted homecare assistance can make such a difference. Our role is to help families feel less alone in the process. With a strong sense of teamwork and a commitment to doing the right thing, we work alongside our clients to provide not just care, but clarity and confidence moving forward.
Sarah and Sharon’s experience at the summit reflects who we are as a team. We believe in showing up, continuing to learn, and bringing that knowledge back to better serve our clients across the Triangle area. Because great care isn’t just about meeting needs, it’s about understanding the journey and walking it with compassion.
